Christy Matson, a recent left-coast transplant to Chicago, weaves cloth on both hand operated Jacquard looms and industrial Jacquard looms. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Fiber and Material Studies Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She received her B.F.A in Studio Art from the University of Washington in 2001 and her M.F.A. in Textiles from CCA in 2005. She exhibits her work primarily in public and non-profit spaces and in University art galleries. Recent solo and group exhibitions include: Heaven Gallery, 2007 Kaunas Biennial, The Evanston Art Center, The Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, the FAB Gallery at Virginia Commonwealth University, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, The San Francisco Museum of Craft+Design, and The San Francisco Museum of Craft and Folk Art. In recent years Matson was awarded artist residencies at the Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago, Harvestworks Digital Media Arts in New York City. Jon Brumit, Adjunct Faculty, FMS (2009).
