After his home and studio were destroyed in a fire, Eli Robb began to rebuild his life, believing that all he had owned was simply fuel for another form of energy. Exploring the cycle of change through a series of installations, performances and videos, Production/Reduction aims at describingto describe the dynamic transformation of energy through archetypal narratives: the battle, the quest and the revelation. Referencing familiar cultural models, likesuch as Arthurian legend, personal familial mythology, and Feng-Shui, Robb combines the funny and absurd with the nostalgic and meditative to produce work that manages to question the relevancy of human certainty and authority in the face of natural order.
Eli Robb graduated with an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2003 where he was a recipient of a graduate fellowship. His work has been shown locally at Fraction Workspace and 40000 in Chicago, The Gahlberg Gallery in Glen Ellyn and Sonnenschein Gallery in Lake Forest. His performances have occurred throughout Chicago and Lake Forest since 2003. Please join us for an artist talk with Eli Robb on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 7:00 PM.
