ThreeWalls is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition in its recently launched offices. "We Need to Talk – Uneasy Props and Propositions" has been organized by Duncan MacKenzie and Shannon Stratton who comprise the Canadian curatorial collective, Middlemanagement. The group’s second exhibition will feature video, photographic and sculptural artwork and will be on view from Friday, January 16 through February 14, 2004. There will be a free public opening reception on Friday the 16th of January from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. There will be a live performance by artist Daniel Barrow at 8:00 p.m. during the opening reception. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
For “We Need to Talk – Uneasy Props and Propositions”, Middlemanagement has assembled a multi-media showcase of works that exhibit a looming dread in a post-millennial world. Rather than expressing fears of mortality, Gothic motifs are used by these artists to express a self-aware neurosis at the loss of role, status and individuality in the contemporary climate earmarked by pervasive technology, an inescapable global capital and a general cultural malaise. In tentative and dryly humorous constructions, videos and photographs, these artworks propose a transcendent collapse of horrific fears into a romantic idealism that hopes for a re-affirmed sense of self.
