OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, April 8, 6:00 – 9:00 PM

ON VIEW: April 8 - May 14, 2005

ThreeWalls is pleased to present “Without Which Nothing” an art exhibition curated by ThreeWalls Programming Directors Shannon Stratton and Jeff M. Ward. The showcase will feature sculpture, ceramics and works on paper by the three artists included in the exhibition: David Banga (Aztec, New Mexico), William Gerhard (Chicago, IL) and Linda Molenaar (Amsterdam, ND). The show will be on view until May 14th. There will be an opening reception on Friday, April 8th between 6:00 and 9:00 PM.

“Without Which Nothing” focuses on the art objects as pivotal foci in an increasingly promiscuous culture in which essential being is a fugitive notion. Stratton and Ward suggest, via the inclusions of these artworks, that each object is a salient, relatively autonomous being that is neither solely the sum of the intensions of the artist or beholden to the viewers’ interpretations. The curators achieve this position by including wily, insistent art objects: Banga's ceramic vessels feature encrusted surfaces who’s poses are full of vim and personality; Gerhard meticulously reveals designs in black paper by fading it in the sun; while, Molenaar’s motley assortment of manipulated objects posses a Surreal synergy.

Without Which Nothing also traveled to the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida.
