Summer Residents

Women in Performance

June 15th - August 30th, 2009, 6PM-9PM

threewalls will host a group of talented emerging women working in performance this summer for our first thematic residency. Artists will be live and work thoughout Chicago, co-hosted by other organizations. Look for performances, site specific projects and other events through-out Chicago during their stay, including our yearly symposium which will extend the conversation about performance art to our yearly panel and publication.

CamLab (Los Angeles/Brisbane) (Anna Mayer and Jemima Wyman)

CamLab is a collaborative project between Mayer and Wyman started at CalArts in 2005. The collaboration is the result of the artists' combined investments in the phenomenon of scopophilia and in destabilizing the notion of a singular authoritative subjectivity. These investments manifest in optically-charge and ribald projects that have more recently incorporated additional bodies to participate in structured experiences of physical intimacy.

CamLab have exhibited as a collaborative in group exhibitions in Poland, the Czech Republic, Glasgow and California as well as solo exhibitions at Gallery 40000 in Chicago and The Block in Brisbane, Australia. They have also participated in several live performances and screenings including Ladyfest in Copenhagen. CamLab was nominated for a New Museum Altoids Award in 2008.

 

 

Kang-Hyun Ahn (South Korea/Chicago)

Ahn's collecting and archiving goes beyond what exists into the often intangible extinct - old social customs, extinct organisms, songs not longer sung. She visualizes this collected information through object-making, collage, video installation and performance, increasingly interested in the space where art encounters spectators and work encounters space, and the manner in which the encounter occurs

Kang-hyun Ahn has participated in exhibitions and performances in the UK, Korea and Germany, including Seoul Museum of Art; Alternative Space Miccle, Seoul; Sussex Barn Gallery, Chichester, UK and The Place Gallery, London. She has participated in residencies at Changdong National Art Studio, Seoul and Doppel de, Dresden, Germany among others.

 

 

Susan Lee Chun (Miami)

Lee-Chun's interests lie in the relationship between identity and place and are manifest in a body of work that incorporates participatory performances, video, and installations. Fascinated by humour and its capability to grab the attention of a wider audience, Lee-Chun employs a tongue in cheek style to the work, under which lies a deeper intensity that explores notions of race and identity politics.

Susan Lee-Chun has recently exhibited solo in San Salvador, El Salvador at the Museo de Arte de El Salvador and at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in Colorado. Recent group exhibitions include Arthouse Texas, Austin; Twenty Twenty Projects, Miami; Musuem of Contemporary Art, North Miami and the Herning Kunstmuseum in Herning, Denmark. She has received numerous awards been frequently covered by the press including the LA Times, Miami Herald, El Neuvo Herald and the Economist.

Gitte Bog (Denmark/England)

Bog is interested in the poetic possibilities in everyday materials, activities and places and the history and cultural differences therein. Using participatory strategies as a platform for dialog, Bog has been learning traditional folk dances, using it as a medium to engage in dialog about immigration and the melting pot.

Gitte Bog has exhibited around the globe including The Centre for Drawing, London; Metro Pino Suarez, Mexico City and Cali Contemporaneo, Columbia. She has completed commissions for Beacon Art Projects, Lincolnshir and Space Triangle, London and was a recent resident of Bolwick Hall in Norfolk, England.
